Liquidation Levels & Large Limits: Reading Market Pressure
Liquidation levels and large limits are filtered readings of unusual forced-closure intensity and large-trade flow that help reveal shifts in market pressure.
Why the level matters more than volume alone
Large volume alone is not always meaningful: normal activity differs across assets and market regimes. Crypto Metrics Pro therefore maps volume to an LV level to help surface periods of unusual intensity.
A March 2020–September 2026 archive study examined 604,072 forced closures across Binance and Bybit. Its key finding is that market scale changes, so one permanent threshold does not fit every asset and year. The levels and filters provide analytical context and do not promise a price move.
Liquidations, large limits and the order book are different
A liquidation is a forced closure of a leveraged position. In the Liquidations module, large limits mean filtered large-trade flow in futures; they show when larger capital is more visibly active.
Resting limit orders in the order book are different data: they are liquidity waiting at price levels. The historical archive contains large prints only, so it does not represent the full market volume. Combining liquidation levels, large-trade flow and order-book walls offers fuller context than any one indicator alone.
FAQ
LV shows how far liquidation or large-limit intensity differs from the usual regime for an asset and period. The research used medians and percentiles so isolated extreme days do not distort the baseline. It is a context filter, not a ready-made trade signal.
In the Liquidations module, large limits mean filtered large-trade flow in futures. Resting order-book orders are shown separately in the Order Book module.
